White Sands Missile Range, N.M., April 2, 2014 –White Sands Missile Range Commander Maj. Gen. Gwen Bingham will leave the missile range sometime this summer to become the Commanding General, United States Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command, Life Cycle Management Command, Warren, Mich.
The announcement was made yesterday by the Army’s General Officer Management Office. The next WSMR Commander will be Brig. Gen. Timothy Coffin, Deputy Commander, Joint Functional Component Command for Space, United States Strategic Command, Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif.
“The opportunity to command again is tremendous and I am proud, humbled, grateful and excited all at the same time. As you can imagine, it is bittersweet at the thought of leaving great friends and teammates here at White Sands. But, I will take a part of each of them with me,” said Bingham.
Bingham assumed command of White Sands Missile Range on Sept 13, 2012. Prior to leading WSMR, she served as the 51st Quartermaster General of the United States Army and Commandant of the U.S. Army Quartermaster School, Fort Lee, Virginia.
The date for the change of command has not yet been set.
