Name: Ben Koeppen
Soldier: Lt. Col. James Koeppen
Years in the military: Over 9 years
How has growing up in the military been for you? It’s been good and bad. I mean it’s good because we get military discounts and we know we can be in a good community. There are some bad sides like, for me, we PCS a lot so let’s say you have a big group of friends and then you move. You’re never going to see them again because you’re moving overseas.
How do you deal with deployments? He hasn’t deployed recently but when I was little it was kind of tough for me. My dad would be deployed a lot. When you’re really little it can be hard to only have one family member around the house. You know, you maybe want to play games with them or talk to them but you can’t because they’re across the sea or away for the next 1 or 2 years.
Do you think it’s worth the sacrifices the children make? Yes, because you can know that your mom or dad or both your mom and dad are helping this country. Your family is doing the country a great thing.
