Volunteers at White Sands Missile Range were recognized for their contributions to the WSMR community during a volunteer recognition ceremony April 15 at the Frontier Club.
The Youth Volunteer of the Year award went to Payton Clifford, who also received the Commander’s Award for Public Service.
Payton volunteers her time supporting the 2nd Engineer Battalion 40th MAC Company Family Readiness Group. She assists with set up and clean up at all FRG events, and helps organize and monitor the children at the activities so that the Soldiers and Spouses can participate in the event or meeting. She has stuffed goody bags and distributed pumpkins and put together information packets and welcome bags.
The Adult Volunteer of the Year was Larry Candelaria. Candelaria volunteers his time at the Veteran Affairs Service Office and performs many tasks with disabled Veterans, Families and widows. He also recruited, trained and supervised a team of volunteers who assisted with various needs of the Veterans and Families.
Among the many volunteers recognized, were the recipients of the Helping Hands award: Larry Candelaria, Larry Fisher, Ashley Mitchell, Brenda Nuckles and Fred Schneider.
At the conclusion of the ceremony Patsy Gomez, ACS Director, presented Garrison Commander Col. Brian M. Michelson with a mock check for $56,439.39, representing the monetary value of volunteer hours.
