The Soldiers of the 2nd Engineer Battalion took time to remember their fallen comrades in a brick laying ceremony at Veterans Park in Las Cruces. The unit gathered together early on April 22 to unveil memorial bricks for each of the fallen heroes from the last two conflicts. Though the scale of the ceremony was small, it displayed the solidarity of the Sapper Steel family coming together in reflection for their fallen friends. Before each of the bricks was unveiled, company command teams set the state by reading a brief biography about each Hero.
The location of the bricks is also very fitting, as the bricks line the foot path up to the American flag at the center of the memorial. This shows that these Soldiers, who have committed the ultimate sacrifice, has allowed for the flag to fly high and their character will be remembered with each step taken along the path to raise the flag. After a few closing remarks, 2nd Engineer Battalion Soldiers remained at the site reflecting on all that they have been through together.
