WSMR Fire Department Chief Carlos Soto talks about the logistics of the Fire Department to IMCOM Command Sgt. Maj. Jeffrey S. Hartless, May 22. Hartless was touring facilities at WSMR and took some time to meet with and congratulate the WSMR Fire Department crew, who were awarded the medium size Fire Department throughout IMCOM earlier this year.
Army Installation Management Command Sgt. Maj. Jeffrey Hartless visited White Sands Missile Range May 21 and 22 to tour facilities and congratulate the WSMR Fire Department on their IMCOM level recognition.
Hartless toured the WSMR Fire Department, the barracks, the Balfour Beatty Housing offices, and McAfee Health Clinic.
“Unless you live here you really don’t get the message everywhere else,” Hartless said. “(WSMR’s) the premiere testing site for not only missile technology but for all emerging technology that will take us to the next level. It makes us better. It protects our Soldiers. That will always be the mission here.”
During his visit he spoke about installation support at the IMCOM level. Hartless said WSMR will have support as long as the Army has a mission. As a nation that is still under war, Hartless said IMCOM is doing its best to be able to balance priorities. Hartless talked about the future of IMCOM and said the upcoming years would be difficult due to cuts in budget and manpower, but he assured that IMCOM was committed to making the best choices.
“It’s tough, as we’ve lost personnel, but we’re committed to taking care of Soldiers and families,” Hartless said.
When asked about the significance of the Army’s upcoming 239th birthday, Hartless talked about the importance of celebrating such a momentous occasion. He said a celebration is necessary in order to remember the Army’s history and to remember where we came from.
“Part of our mission that we continue to teach and celebrate is that the Army’s the strength of a nation, the Soldiers are the strength of the Army, and the families are the strength of the Soldiers. That’s what makes us Army strong,” he said.
Hartless’ visit ended with a tour of the new medical facility, which opened in August of last year.
“I enjoyed my visit back to White Sands. The Garrison team is a strong team. Every unit here is a team of teams. It’s a good place to work and live,” Hartless said.
