The best part of Jessica Maitland’s job, a Management Analyst with Range Operations, is getting to introduce others to the J.W. Cox Range Control Center at White Sands Missile Range.
“I’ve been very lucky to work with great supervisors and directors who directed my career to be in the position I am now,” Maitland said.
As a Management Analyst with Range Operations, Maitland is in charge of visitor and access control, security, tours, and purchasing for Range Operations at the Cox Range Control Center.
“I get to meet different kinds of people. I like to bring them through Range Control. Few people get to see what we do here,” Maitland said.
Part of Maitland’s job is to introduce students, commanders, and other groups to the Range Control Center at WSMR. What some may not know, however, is that Maitland came to WSMR as a middle school student herself.
She moved to the installation fifteen years ago when her father was stationed here with the Army Air.
After attending middle school on the installation, Maitland attended Oñate High School in Las Cruces, but her journey at WSMR was far from over.
In 2004, she worked as a summer hire with Range Operations during the break before her senior year in high school. She continued working as a temporary hire after finishing high school and earned a bachelor’s degree from New Mexico State University in 2009.
Maitland happened to be working with a supervisor who offered her a co-op position if she obtained a degree relevant to the position.
In 2012, she became a permanent employee after receiving a bachelor’s degree in General Business.
