In the October and November time-frame DPW will begin phase two of renovation project on Bell Gymnasium. This phase will consist of all asbestos removal from the basketball court area, weight room, men and women’s locker rooms and the front desk area. Both locker rooms, the free weight area and the main lobby area will also be renovated. The project is scheduled to last approximately 12 months. Temporary showers and changing rooms for both the men and women will be available and they will be in place on the East side of the gymnasium. The main entrance to the gymnasium will be the Northeast door going into the basketball court. A temporary front desk will be set-up in this area.
Bell Gym will not have our automated systems set-up so everyone will be required to sign in on the sign-in sheets that will be available in the Cardio, Nautilus and main gym areas. The majority of the free weight equipment will be set-up on the East end of the gymnasium. Bell Gym will hold all of our fitness classes in this area as well as the racquetball area and the aerobic room will also be renovated during this time. Though we understand that this will cause some hardships for many of our patrons we look forward to having a new and modern facility once the work is accomplished to better serve the White Sands Community. Please be patient with us during the next few months. Approximately 10 Sep 14, we will ask everyone to empty their lockers out as we will be receiving new lockers as part of this renovation project. Once we re-open, we will begin the locker rental process. Active Duty Military will have first choice at lockers followed by retirees and then all other authorized patrons of our facility. During the first 30 days of the renovation, we will have no access to the main building because of the asbestos removal. We will operate out the nautilus building. In order to serve our patrons during this renovation we will have staff positioned in all of our buildings to
handle any situations that may arise and ensure safety remains our number one priority. Thank you for your patience.
