It’s time again to prepare for the Annual Team White Sands Ammunition and Explosives amnesty Day.
This year the event, as defined in AR 710-2 and DA Pam 710-2-1, will occur on Oct. 29 between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. In accordance with the DA Pam and Policy Letter #35, this is an anonymous process and may be used without fear of penalty or prosecution.
The only deviation to Policy Letter # 35 is the locations of the drop off points. Two locations used in previous years, the old explosive truck inspection sites North of the Las Cruces Gate and East of the El Paso Gate will be the collection points. Explosive Safety personnel will be accepting amnesty turn-in at these locations. No questions will be asked of the person turning in the A&E, nor will there be any record made of who turned in what.
The purpose of the Army’s A&E Amnesty Program is to allow personnel to turn in any A&E in their possession, (stolen, found, forgotten…) that they’re not legally allowed to have. The Amnesty process gets the material back into the proper supply channels. This does not apply to using organizations that have received an A&E issue, but have not utilized the proper supply process to complete a normal turn in.
If the A&E item is showing propellant or filler: On WSMR, individuals can contact InFoPro at 678-7588 or the QASAS (Quality Assurance Specialist, Ammunition Surveillance) at 678-0018/7449. Off-post personnel should contact local law enforcement to handle this hazardous situation.
