Members of the WSMR workforce now have a handy way to apply for upcoming awards and nominations.
Several upcoming awards are now listed in a section of the Leadership Development Board. The awards are also available directly on the WSDM homepage, the first page that pops up when you open your internet icon.
“I think it’s a good way to give you exposure and get your name out there,” said Marcos Nañez, a WSMR employee.
When users click on a button titled “I Deserve an Award” they are then redirected to the section of the Leadership Board Portal with a list of awards. The button is located in the same section where one can click to view roadblocks, submit an ICE complaint, and check out restaurant menus.
“It’s an idea we came up with to disseminate information to the workforce in order for them to see what awards are out there,” said Elizabeth Hill, Deputy of the Leadership and Development Program.
Hill and Deputy of the Leader and Professional Development, Mariette Mealor, have been working together to create new avenues to disseminate opportunities for the workforce. Aside from the “I Deserve an Award” icon, Hill and Mealor have also led efforts for a recurring newsletter that has been disseminated consistently throughout the WSMR workforce. The newsletter provides tips on how to excel and includes several career opportunities.
Hill said the biggest complaint they have been hearing from the workforce since they started this initiative is that they never hear about awards or nominations. Hill said they wanted to try a different avenue than what was currently being used.
Along with the two different avenues that were created, whenever Hill or Mealor find out about an upcoming nomination that pertains to a certain area at WSMR they forward the information to the specific directors and branch chiefs.
“I think it’s a pretty good idea because I think we all deserve some recognition for what we do,” said Arthur Villa, a WSMR employee.
