WSMR Commander Brig. Gen. Timothy Coffin presents Brig. Gen. retired Hanson L. Scott with the Commander’s Award for Public Service in February 2015. As Director of the Military Base Planning Commission Scott provided exceptional support to the Department of Defense mission by developing and maintaining a strong partnership between State and DoD agencies in New Mexico, resulting in successful accomplishment of numerous complex and critical test and training missions. According to the citation Scott’s leadership and personal contributions were instrumental in a variety of enabling and sustaining activities directly affecting White Sands Missile Range (WSMR) including the NM Space Port, airspace coordination, tax legislation, encroachment and land extension areas, the joint land use study, and base realignment activities. His patriotic support provided a strong foundation for DoD test and training activities that are unique and vital to New Mexico and our Nation’s security. His knowledge, dedication and selfless service to the DoD reflects great credit upon our Nation and the State of New Mexico, and sets the standard for exceptional public service to our Country. For his outstanding dedication and leadership in support of the DoD and WSMR, Hanson L. Scott is awarded the Commander’s Award for Public Service.
