2nd Engineer Battalion
The 573rd Route Clearance Company Equipment Platoon with the 2nd Engineer Battalion supported White Sands Missile Range through the demolition and restoration of five training sites on the installation March 9-12.
The purpose of the mission was to restore roughly 12 acres of land and return it back to its natural state in time for the Bataan Memorial Death March. The platoon work force consisted of 10 horizontal engineers using five pieces of engineer equipment. This included two I-HMEE front and rear bucket tractors, two Bobcat scoop loaders and a grader.
The Engineers worked in conjunction with WSMR Department of Public Works and a 10 man team of the 2nd Engineer Battalion Command Sergeant Major detail. The team completed the task a week ahead of schedule and to the required standard. This mission was a great opportunity for the 573rd Clearance Company Horizontal Engineers to hone skills and make a lasting impression on White Sands Missile Range.
The 573rd Clearance Company is scheduled to relocate to Fort Polk, Louisiana this summer.
