The 2015 Summer Reading Program ended with a closing party and an award ceremony for the participants on July 25.White Sands Missile Range Commander Brig. Gen. Timothy R. Coffin and Garrison Commander Col. Brian M. Michelson recognized volunteers, handing out reading program coins and medals, as well as helping with the prize drawing.
This year’s reading program revolved around a musical theme for children officially titled “Reading to the Rhythm.” The regularly scheduled program dates consisted of story time with musical related titles and afterwards the participants created musical instruments related to the stories using arts and crafts. Depending on the reading level, the participants also had to fill out book reports and read for certain lengths of time each week to be eligible for the prize drawing.
The Summer Reading Program had a steady group of dedicated volunteers that made the program an efficient and enjoyable one. The following volunteers were officially recognized during the closing party:
