GSA VEHICLE USAGE AND SAFETY
It is prohibited to use a government vehicle outside of official business. Traffic accidents continue to occur in government vehicles, specifically in pickup trucks. Brig. Gen. Timothy Coffin urges government workers to double check their surroundings before backing. All ATEC GSA vehicles will be equipped with orange seat-belt covers to save lives.
Last year WSMR welcomed 24 students from on base and the surrounding area to tour various test facilities and conduct experiments for an entire week. The Gains in Education of Mathematics and Science program provides a diverse STEM summer experience. The program is now accepting applications for GEMS I and II summer programs for 2016. For information on how to apply call Mariette Mealor at (575) 678-7510.
There has been an increase of coyote reports in the housing area. The community is asked to do their best to haze the coyotes to make it known they are not wanted in the area. Do not leave food out for coyotes, never turn your back on a coyote and never run away from a coyote. Hazing tips: act big and loud by yelling or banging on something that produces noise, maintain eye contact, keep hazing, even if there is more than one coyote until the coyote leaves the area. Do not haze if: the coyote appears to be sick or injured, has pups or is cornered. Call WSMR Department of Emergency Services Game Warden at (575) 678-1234 and notify the Environmental Office at (575) 678-2225.
Take swift action and report unlawful harassment immediately. Start by telling the harasser to stop. The responsibility then lies at each individual level. A supervisor who receives a complaint has an immediate response requirement. For more information or to report an issue, call WSMR EEO Officer Norman Estrada at (575) 678-5803.
