Are You Doing Your Part to Recycle?
Help the ‘WSMR Recycles’ program by breaking down your cardboard boxes before placing them in the blue recycling trailers. Boxes take up too much empty space in the trailers, which causes them to overfill quickly.
Every office, break room, copy room shop and warehouse should have blue recycling containers—if not, contact the Garrison Environmental Division at (575) 678-2415 to arrange pick up of your office or shop containers.
There is no need to separate recyclables. All recyclables can be placed in the same container: paper, newspaper, magazines, junk mail, phone books, shredded paper (tied in clear plastic bags), cardboard and paperboard (flattened) and all plastics. No food, liquid or tobacco. Remember to break down your boxes!
Everyone is responsible for taking their recyclables to the nearest blue recycling trailer. Currently, trailers are located at:
Building 465 at the Professional Development Center parking lot
- Building 102 parking Lot
- Corner of Martin Luther King and Dyer Street parking lot
- Corner of Crozier and Aberdeen Street parking lot
- Building 21080 north parking lot
We now have five new trailers and are in the process of getting them ready for your use in locations across main post, making it even more convenient to drop-off your recyclables.
Full recycling trailers are delivered to Friedman Recycling Center in El Paso by the DPW Roads and Grounds personnel. The trailers are inspected at least twice a week to ensure full trailers are emptied as soon as possible. If you happen to come across a trailer that is full, please call (575) 678-2415.
Since August 2013, WSMR has diverted over 166 tons of solid waste from the landfill. Our diversion has steadily improved—going from 26 percent in 2013, to a diversion of 42 percent at the end of 2015. With your help, we can continue to increase our diversion rates to meet this year’s diversion goal of 50 percent.
Your participation in WSMR Recycles is making a difference! Thanks for your continued support. If you have any questions, or need assistance, don’t hesitate to call (575) 678-2225.
