The 2016 White Sands Library Summer Reading Program ended July 30 with a closing party, awards ceremony, and a grand prize drawing.
Over 40 children in the White Sands community participated in the six-week reading program enjoying weekly story time events, arts and crafts, and other activities.
The summer readers also had to keep track of a reading log with a daily reading goal, along with a total overall minutes read goal. A cumulative total of the minutes read by this year’s summer readers equaled 12,281 minutes read, approximately 221 hours or a total of 9 days.
A total of ten volunteers of the WSMR community also turned out on a weekly basis to make the annual library summer program a successful as well as an enjoyable one.
The post librarian Colin O’Hanlon pointed out that despite the ending of the program, he hopes that all children of White Sands continue to develop good reading habits and also wanted to reiterate that his doors will always be open for any help needed during the school year.
