Clover Rover Dog Show
CYS Services and Balfour Beatty Communities are hosting the annual Clover Rover Fitness Walk and Dog Show on March 17. This is a free event and will take place at the Alan A. Nord Youth Services Center in Building 1316 from 4:30-7 p.m.

Chili fundraiser March18
The 573rd Clearance Company FRG will hold a Chili Fundraiser on March 18th at The Lodge at Volunteer Park from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. The purpose of this fundraiser is to raise money to send care packages to our deployed Soldiers. We hope to see you there!

War Road repairs Phase 2
Initial surveying and prepatory work on War Road began March 5.The project is scheduled through May 2011. Construction will begin on War Road (State Highway 213) at the corner of Dona Ana Base Camp. Expect delays and follow detour notifications as traffic will, at times, be rerouted. Information will be updated as construction proceeds.

Finance training classes
The following finance classes are offered at the Army Community Services in Building 250, room 115.

•March 3: Banking/Credit Unions/Checkbook Management: Do you know the difference between a bank and a credit union? Do you know the basics of good checkbook management? If no, this class is for you.

•March 17: Record Keeping/Organizing Your Financial Records: Do you know where your most important personal and financial documents are? Do you know what you should be keeping in your records? If you answered “NO” this class is for you.

•April 6: Principals of Personal Finance: This class will give you the basics of determining your net worth, setting financial goals and developing a budget to reach your goals.

•April 20: Planning & Budgeting: Do you feel like no matter how hard you try to pay all your bills, you still find yourself living paycheck to paycheck; worse yet; strapped for cash? If so, this class is for you!

•May 4: Debt Management: Are you up to your eyeballs in debt? Do you find yourself paying more in fees than the original balance? Come learn how to minimize your debt.

•May 18: Saving, Investing and TSP: You don’t need to have a lot of money to save money. There are three types of savings accounts you should have: emergency, short-term goals, and retirement. If you have all three, you’re in great shape. If you have one or neither come to this class to get the information you need!

•June 1: Car Buying and Insurance: Car buying requires time and research. You will leave with tips, resources and facts that will make you a smarter shopper when it comes to vehicles.

•June 15: Understanding Credit: There are so many credit card offers and loans out there, how do you know which is best for you? This class will explain the different types of accounts that exist, the importance of viewing your credit report, knowing your debt to income ration, and more.

Pet adoptions in Las Cruces
The Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley will conduct two pet adoption events this weekend. Available for adoption will be dogs, puppies, cats and kittens.

Adoptions will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 13, at the Farmer’s Market in downtown Las Cruces. Adoption fees are $75 for dogs/ puppies and $50 for cats/kittens. The fee includes the first set of vaccinations, spay/neuter and microchip.

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 13, adoptions also will be facilitated at Pet’s Barn, 1600 S. Valley Dr. in Las Cruces. At the Pet’s Barn event, microchipping for pets that already have homes will be available to the public for $20, and city pet licenses will be available to neutered pets for $5 each. Licenses for unneutered pets are $25 each. Proof of spay/neuter is required before a $5 license will be issued. Pet owners also must bring current proof of rabies vaccination for each animal to be licensed.

Underwater Easter egg hunt
Sick of the same old Easter routine? May we suggest hunting your eggs underwater this year?

The WSMR Aquatic Center will host its second annual Underwater Easter Egg Hunt on April 3 from noon-2 p.m. Bring your swimsuit and a basket and join us and work off all that Easter chocolate! Regular $2 admission fees apply and punch cards are welcome.

WSMR Veterinary Services
The WSMR VTF has adjusted its schedule in accordance with patient demand to once monthly. VTF personnel encourage patrons to pay close attention to posted clinic days, as some have been changed due to mission availability, and to prevent conflicts from upcoming holidays. The VTF will be open March 26 for morning wellness/doctor appointments and over-the-counter sales from 8 a.m. - noon.

To make an appointment, please call (575) 572-3303. We ask that all patrons attend their scheduled appointments, or if unable to keep the appointment, call to cancel/reschedule at least 24 hours in advance.

We would also like to announce our new VetCentric Online Pharmacy for OTC sales. With certain restrictions on scripted medications, the military community will now be able to have their heartworm medications, flea/tick preventions and other select pharmaceuticals shipped directly to their front doors as of January 2010! (Please note that all authorized patrons must have a valid client-patient-veterinarian relationship to participate in this program.)

Teen Rock and Bowl
The Middle School Teen program is going bowling on March 19 from 7-9 p.m. This is a free event, but a permission slip is required for transportation. Youth must be registered with CYS Services in order to participate. For more information on this event please call 678-1128.

Spring Break for teens
The Middle School Teen program is offering various activities during spring break March 22-26. Morning care from 5:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. will be available for $5 per day. For a list of activities and special events or to sign up please call Parent Central Services at 678-2441.

Wednesday Golf League
The Wednesday night golf league is looking for teams and/or players. Any golfer authorized to play at the WSMR Golf Course is eligible to be a team member. The league season will begin in early April and end in late-August or mid-September depending on the number of teams. Each Wednesday’s play will begin with a shotgun start at 5 p.m. immediately after Retreat. Team play will consist of three different types of nine-hole competition: Match, Two-Person Scramble, and Two-Person Best Ball.

The cost per team is $200 and must be paid one week before team scramble.

You are encouraged to have at least 6 players per team to 1) reduce your costs and 2) minimize the chance of not fielding enough players and thus forfeiting team points.

Last year we had 8 teams and this year we are looking for a maximum of 12 teams.

Tennis players wanted
The Community Recreation Division Sports Office is interested in starting a Tennis Club for those who would like to play Tennis at all levels from beginner to advanced. The opportunities are unlimited.
There will be a Tennis meeting at 11:30 a.m. March 18 at Bell Gym in Building 236. Your support is invited and all are welcome. Now that we are getting some warmer weather, it is time to get those racquets out of the closet and play some Tennis!

Historical foundation event
The White Sands Historical Foundation is sponsoring a “Help Improve and Build the Museum” golf tournament at the missile range’s golf course on April 30. The format will be a 4-man scramble over 18 holes with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m.

The cost is $55 per person and includes green fee, cart and a box lunch.

All revenue generated by the tournament will be used for the White Sands Museum and Leaning Center. Since this tournament is a fundraiser for the museum, hole sponsorships are available and items to be used as prizes are being accepted.

Spring Volleyball to start
Sports and Fitness is accepting letters of intent for the upcoming 2010 Spring Volleyball League, which begins play on April 5. Games will be played Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-6:30 p.m. The last day to turn in letters of intent is April 1, to the Sports and Fitness Office. We must have at least six teams to have the league. A mandatory coaches meeting is scheduled for 11 a.m. April 1.

Scholarships for Military
Scholarship applications for the 2010 Scholarships for Military Children Program are available in commissaries worldwide and online through a link at http://www.commissaries.com/.

Only dependent, unmarried children, younger than age 21 (age 23 if enrolled as a full- time student at a college or university) of active duty personnel, Reserve, Guard and retired military members, survivors of service members who died while on active duty, or survivors of individuals who died while receiving retired pay from the military may apply for a scholarship.

The applicant must be planning to attend, or already be attending, an accredited college or university full-time in the fall of 2010, or be enrolled in a program of studies designed to transfer directly into a four-year program.

Applicants should prepare to submit an essay on the following topic: "You can travel back in time; however, you cannot change events. What point in history would you visit, and why?"
Applications must be turned in to a commissary by close of business Feb. 17. At least one scholarship will be awarded at every store location with qualified applicants.

The Great Escape events
The following events are scheduled to take place at The Great Escape located inside the Community Center in Building 460. The Great Escape is open to individuals age 21 and older.

- March Birthday Celebration: Come to the Great Escape and get your free Birthday Cupcake if you are celebrating a March Birthday!!

- Doubles Dominos Tournaments: March 12, 13, 26 and 27and April 9 and 10 April starting at 5 p.m. Registration is $15 and includes a T-shirt.
A minimum of 10 teams are needed to hold the tournament.

- St. Patrick’s Day Celebration: March 17 from 4-10 p.m.
