On July 4, personnel and their families may bring fireworks to the designated area of Volunteer Park and ignite them from 7:30 until 10:30 p.m. Families are encouraged to arrive early and make use of the park’s barbecue grills and picnic tables to make the most of the evening.

Garrison Commander Col. C. J. Wicker invites all WSMR residents to come out and enjoy the evening, and asked that everyone celebrate safely by supervising their children, using fireworks in a responsible manner, and cleaning up their areas prior to departing.

The WSMR Police Department, Fire Department, along with Emergency Medical personnel will be there during the event to help ensure everyone’s safety.

Participants will need to sign in and will be directed to one of many designated sections where they can safely ignite their fireworks with their friends and family.

Only fireworks purchased at licensed reputable dealers in Las Cruces are allowed. Do not purchase fireworks from any vendors unless they are “Safe and Sane” approved. Fireworks must have the “Safe and Sane” sticker on the packaging.

Examples of unauthorized fireworks include: Aerial spinners, bottle rockets, chasers, firecrackers.

Many types of fireworks, including fountains, are not affected by the restrictions.

No one may light fireworks anywhere in the housing areas, or anywhere else except Volunteer Park. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Personnel will be allowed to bring approved fireworks onto the installation starting July 1 through July 4.

For more information contact the White Sands Fire Department at 678-5105.
